What does the general election mean for the Renters (Reform) Bill?

A general election has been called!

On the 4th July the British public will take to the polls to cast their vote... but what does this mean for the much anticipated Renters (Reform) Bill?

The Renters (Reform) Bill recently passed the final stages of debate in the House of Commons, and moved on to the House of Lords for further debate, before receiving Royal Assent to become law.

However, any bills that have not already received Royal Assent by the time parliament is dissolved (30th May) for the general election will not enter into law and cannot be continued into the next parliament, putting the Renters (Reform) Bill at risk.

This doesn't mean the next Parliament cannot re-introduce the Bill, but it would almost certainly cause months, possibly years of delay. Of course, there is still a chance that the Bill could receive Royal Assent before the 30th May, but it's unlikely.
